Meet The Team
We are an undergraduate organization at Duke that is dedicated to improving and expanding the experience of high school students in Science Olympiad. Our activities include volunteering at local Science Olympiad competitions and organizing a high school invitational. 2021 will be our third year holding the tournament!

I’m a junior from Memphis, Tennessee, currently pursuing a double major in Economics and Computer Science. I’ve competed in Science Olympiad since I was a 7th grader and my favorite events are Crime Busters/Forensics, Write It Do It, and Fast Facts. Outside of Science Olympiad, I play ultimate frisbee with the men’s club team here and am part of the Admissions Ambassador tour guide program! Outside of Duke related stuff, I enjoy spending my free time doing crossword puzzles (albeit I’m horrible at it), playing random video games with friends, and enjoying a good TV show.

I’m a senior majoring in Environmental Engineering. I went to Harriton High School and joined the Scioly team in my junior year. My favorite event in high school was Invasive Species, though I also enjoyed Dynamic Planet, Remote Sensing, and Rocks and Minerals. I also have plenty of random Herpetology knowledge now as well, despite never having done the event myself. In my free time I enjoy binging TV shows (The Office, Arrested Development, etc.) living in a tent, and looking at Dogspotting on Facebook!
Hi! My name is Ashley Chen and I’m a sophomore from Tucson, Arizona. I went to University High School, where I competed in Science Olympiad for four years. My favorite events are probably Codebusters and Disease Detectives. Outside of DUSO, I play clarinet in the marching band and am an associate editor for The Archive. In my free time, I enjoy playing piano, painting, and reading.

I am a junior majoring in chemistry and from Sharon, Massachusetts. I went to Sharon High School, was part of Science Olympiad throughout all four years, and was part of DUSO (Duke Science Olympiad) my freshman year. My favorite events were Chem Lab, Robot Arm, and Forensics. Outside of Science Olympiad, I am part of the Honor Council, member of Best Buddies, and Jarvis House Council. In my free time, I enjoy singing, reading, playing the violin, attempting to learn the piano, having movie nights, and hanging out with my friends.

I’m a sophomore majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Education. I went to Cerritos High in Southern California and joined the Science Olympiad team in my junior year. One of my favorite events was herpetology, in which my partner and I made several kermit and pepe memes during our preparation, but I also had fun with Chem Lab, Experimental, and Materials Science. Outside of Science Olympiad, I’ve made a hobby out of trolling scam callers who have the misfortune of contacting me, cooking when I tire of cafeteria food, and making poor decisions to wear flip flops in the rain. My life goal is to reach a level of comfort where I no longer have to check menu prices when I decide what to eat.

Hi! I’m a junior studying computer science. I went to Columbus Academy in Columbus and St. John’s School in Houston, and I started SciOly in 7th grade. Some of my favorite events are Experimental Design, Disease Detectives, and Rocks and Minerals. Outside of DUSO, I play violin in the Duke Symphony Orchestra and direct a hackathon for HS girls. I spend my free time drawing for my Tiktok (@arti.san), trying to exercise, and talking to friends.
